I hate to sound like a broken record, but April 26 is only a little over a month away and we need everybody to sign-up for our Centennial Project. I would like to thank Mary Jo McNamara and Ken Nash for stepping forward to be on the Centennial Volunteer Committee. Our attendance or make-ups for this year has been improving, but after the first six months, we ranked 54th in our District with only 72.64%. We had a 75.54% for February. I want to acknowledge two of our members for doing an outstanding job. First, I would like to thank Richard Shawcroft for all his work this year and past on the Architectural Design Competition. The second person I would like to thank is John Chu. He has given us a great variety of good programs. We should all try to make our fifth Wednesday at Monty Roberts' "Flag Is Up" Ranch. Rotary International has just celebrated its 100th birthday. Our Santa Ynez Valley Rotary Club observed its 46th birthday on March 10, 2005. Our club was chartered on March 10, 1959. Twenty-five men signed the charter roll. Dr. Frank Pedersen was one of them. Robert T. (Pea Soup) Andersen was elected the first president. Willard B. (Bill) Bellack, a past district governor from Wisconsin, recruited the first members, and served as the first secretary. The charter was presented to our club by District Governor Reuben J. (Rube) Irwin on April 29, 1959. Aubrey Campbell, who has been at the Rehabilitation Hospital in Santa Barbara for several weeks, is now back at his room at Friendship House. He loves to have visitors. On Wednesday, March 30, we will be having our 5th Wednesday Program at the Monty Roberts "Flag is Up" Ranch on Highway 246. We will be having an outdoor BBQ lunch and demonstration of "joinup" in the round arena. Make you sure you mark your calendars and bring a guest! Dave Ionello of Leathers Associates met with the Centennial Committee members and city officials on Thursday, March 3. He commended us on our progress to date. In the remaining 50 days before April 26, we must: (1) Recruit a large number of workers, (2) Secure the tools we need to do the task before us, and (3) Sell pavers at $100 each to complete our goal of raising $200,000.
