Last week we were reminded again of how talented some of our members are. I want to thank again Suzanne, Elle, and Jeff for the great Valentine's Day meeting. We should all be looking forward to February 23. We will be having a special program to celebrate Rotary's 100-Year Anniversary and have invited the morning and evening Rotary clubs. That afternoon we have invited the public to the site of our Centennial Project at the Sunny Fields Park. There will be refreshments, entertainment, and sign-up tables. We are in the process of signing up volunteers to help construct our playground between April 27 and May 1 and we expect all Rotarians to donate some time. And another item to consider is the purchase of a paver to mark your part in the 100-Year Anniversary. Wednesday, February 23, 2005, Rotary International's 100th birthday has arrived. There will be two great opportunities to celebrate. All three clubs will meet at 12:10pm at the Meadows Restaurant. Len Dalberg has arranged a program entitled, "Rotary's Past, Present, and Future." Paul Matthies will show a PowerPoint presentation on highlights of the past. Present programs of our three Rotary clubs will also be featured and Len will help us look into the future. At 3:00pm in the afternoon, Rotarians and the community will gather at Sunny Fields Park site of the Rotary Centennial project, the children's playground. We hope to have lots of children there. Come and enjoy the music, food, and drinks. Our own Jeff Cotter will be Master of Ceremonies. Roger Nielsen provided all of the lovely bouquets of flowers for our Valentine's Party. Because of his generosity and ours, about $250 went into our Scholarship Fund. Our sympathies are expressed to Rotarian Greg Pensa and his family. His daughter, Cara, 19 years old, died in an auto accident a week ago. Let's remember Rotarian John Klein and his wife, Lynn, in our thoughts and prayers. Lynn was recently diagnosed as having ovarian cancer. Marilyn Ann Johnson announced her resignation from the club as she recently made a decision to begin studies for her doctorate in Hospital Management at UCSB. Marilyn said that she really enjoyed the short time she was able to attend our meetings and she wished the club continued success in our service to the communities. Our club has received an application for membership from Allen Cooper. Allen has been to a couple of meetings and is being proposed by Norm Williams. His classification will be Swimming Pool Contractor. Any comments or concerns about our new candidate should be addressed to Sharon Pike. We are always looking for articles or updates about our members and all the Rotary activity that occurs in the Valley. Please contact myself or Len Dalberg if you want something in future Cogwheels.
