I think that our Club Assembly was one of the best we ever had - Thanks to Bob. February 23 is the official anniversary date for Rotary and we are going to have a special program to celebrate the day. Len Dalberg is in charge and we have invited the morning and the evening Rotary Clubs. This is also the date that we will have a Rotary Centennial Celebration with the community at the new park where we will be building the Sunny Fields Playground. The plan is that we will have clowns, entertainment, and refreshments, and Jeff Cotter will be the "Master of Ceremonies." As you all know, the playground is our Centennial Project and we have had a good start on volunteers to help construct the playground, but we still need everybody to help. We also need as many of you as possible to buy pavers that will be part of the "Walk of Honor" for the Sunny Fields Playground. I also thought that some of you might like to know what goes on at a Rotary Mid-Term Seminar. First, all current presidents, president-elects, and president elect nominees in our district are invited. The first order of the day, we played Rotary Bingo. We then broke up into ten groups of seven; each of the breakout groups first reviewed the importance of youth services to Rotary and made a report that was submitted to the general group. The second breakout session was on where our future district governors would come from and the training that is needed. After lunch, we split into three groups: current presidents, president elects, and president elect nominees. Each group reported on what their Rotary Club was doing this year. The final speech was from our District Governor Jan concerning this Rotary year. Wednesday, February 23, is fast approaching, the 100th birthday of Rotary International. The 3 Valley Clubs will meet for a centennial program at 12:10pm, our usual time. Past President Len Dalberg and committee are promising an inspirational presentation. At 3pm the same day, there will be a Centennial party. Weather permitting; it will be at Sunny Fields Park, site of the Rotary Centennial Project, the children's playground. There will be lots of balloons, food, music, etc. If the weather is inclement, the party will move to the Veterans Memorial Building in Solvang. The sale of pavers has begun. The cost of each is $100. Purchase one and have it inscribed with your name. The pavers will serve as the entrance walkway to the children's playground. Don't forget to bring your spouse or significant other to a special Valentine's Party on Wednesday, February 9, at 12:10pm. Suzanne Hollrah, our song leader, assisted by Elle Seymour and Marilyn Johnson has arranged a program of love songs appropriate for the occasion. Bouquets of flowers will be sold for $10, with the proceeds going to our Scholarship Fund. Aubrey Campbell was recently moved to Santa Barbara Rehabilitation Center. Friends are welcome to stop by and visit him. John Scherrei also announced his resignation from the Club due to conflicts with his work schedule. John said that he always enjoyed going to the meetings and learning all the wonderful work that Rotary does. We are always looking for articles or updates about our members and all the Rotary activity that occurs in the Valley. Please contact myself or Len Dalberg if you want something in future Cogwheels.
