KING RICHARD SAYS My last meeting was quite a thrill for me and I had like comments from members. There are "King Richard Round Table" badges left for those who might have been missed. I would like you all to know how wonderful the year was for me and you made it all possible. The positive attitude of all of you and the spirit of cooperation and service was really super. We have a lot of new members now too who are very eager to serve and have already shown it. Also, Nelson Owens, your new president, will appreciate your continued loyalty and support. We all look forward to his term and the great things we can accomplish under his direction. We were blessed with a strong and able District Governor, Arnie Dowdy, this year and he will be serving in some capacity for years to come. I hope that his new title of "Co-King, Arnie Dowdy" from our club will help maintain his prestige in the world of Rotary. Thanks to each and all of you for a wonderful, successful year. Don't forget that next week, June 30th, is the Demotion Party for King Richard! If you did not sign up Wednesday, you can still RVSP, by contacting Butch Phillips at 688-6644 or via email at william.phillips@lospadresbank.com. The "FUN" begins at 6pm with cocktails (which includes the 1st drink on Tom Bernard and his Rotary Jackpot winnings), the Steak and Salmon dinner at 7pm, and the Demotion facilities at 7:45pm. The cost is $35. On June 17th, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, dedicated a sidewalk plaque marking the spot where Rotary was born. Although the Unity Building was demolished in 1989, the sidewalk space at 127 N. Dearborn St. commemorates the site where four men held what would become the first meeting of the Rotary Club of Chicago. The contents of Room 711, Gus Loehr's office, were carefully relocated to RI headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. R.I.'s Council on Legislation met this month and took action on over 400 resolutions. Read the report on R.I.'s website. A request to have a new Standing Committee of Population Concerns was referred to R.I.'s Board. The Council also referred to the Board the matter allowing the formation of Districts with 40 clubs. In addition, the Council recommended raising Rotary dues. We are always looking for articles about our members and all the Rotary activity that occurs in the Valley. Please contact Len Dalberg or myself. Coming Programs Wednesday, June 30, 2004 @ 6:00PM King Richard is being demoted!! What do we demote him to: a prince? a Knight? a pauper? It's not easy to demote a king! Come and enjoy the fun.
