Everyone who was able to attend our member pot luck dinners really enjoyed them, so I'm told. I know we did at our house with 15 guests. I want to congratulate our Service Chairs, Marlene Demery, Joe Dugan, Jeff Little, Jeff Cotter, and David Wyatt for completing the goals they agreed to at the beginning of the year. John Grelck put all the information together and it has been forwarded to the District. This is a great accomplishment, not only for them but for our club and all its members! Well done ! We are starting the 4th quarter of this Rotary year next week. If it goes as well as the first three, I, for one will be very pleased. We have the greatest club west of the Susquehanna River. Mary Jo McNamara was born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She received her BA from Wisconsin State University, and a Master's degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. She moved to California from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Mary has owned her own business, has been a college instructor, a writer and editor, and has an extensive background in marketing communications for Fortune 1000 companies. Her daughter, Erica Jo, lives in Nashua, New Hampshire with her husband and three sons. Chris, Mary's son, is in Chicago with his wife and their son. Mary is married to Tucker McNamara, who is a consultant to the Navy on the FA18. Mary is a full times sales associate for Coldwell Banker, Santa Ynez . She is thrilled to live in the Valley, and to serve through Rotary. She is currently lining up drivers for Job Shadow. Lynn Bonzer, who was a member of our club from 1999 to 2002 is rejoining our club. Her classification is Importer- Distributor. Penny Halvorson is sponsored by Verva Enoch . She is with Coldwell Banker and will have the classification of Investor-Realtor. Concerns should be addressed to the club secretary. The April issue of The Rotarian [ pages 46 and 47 ]reports that the Council on Legislation meets in Chicago in June and will consider raising Rotary dues! The Council will also consider a proposal from the Rotarian Fellowship for Population and Development to make "Population Concerns" a new standing committee. District 5240's delegate to the Council on Legislation is George C Palmer P.D.G. If you have concerns about these or other items you can contact him at 108 Bermuda St, Bakersfield, Ca. 93309 Last Friday's 5th Wednesday's series of Potlucks was a great success. The objective of getting to know our fellow Rotarians and their spouses better was certainly met. Anyone on a diet was at a disadvantage, if they made it through dinner their self-discipline is to be admired. For those who couldn't attend, plan on attending or hosting one of the next series, whenever it will be (certainly not on a Wednesday). Our Knightess of Merriment and Frolic, and Jeff Little, are doing a great job of getting us to mix socially. Happy Hour is on the 15th at the Meadows Bar. We are still looking for articles about our members and all the Rotary activity that occurs in the Valley. Please contact Len Dalberg or myself. John Grelck will be taking over the editor's job at the Cogwheel starting on the 16th. He is ready to print all the news that is fit to print, so that will leave out any of King Richard's or Bob France's "jokes". Anything else is fair game. Wednesday Apr. 7, 2004 @ 12:10PM Jarmo Tarkki will discuss; "The meaning of Easter in today's pluralistic society". Wednesday Apr. 14, 2004 @ 12:10PM Mission Santa Inez Aqueduct Mapping by the Environmental and Spatial Technologies class (EAST) at SYV Union H.S. Teacher Chip Fenenga and students. Wednesday Apr. 21, 2004 @ 12:10PM Richard Willingham discusses his study of the ocean floor in the Diablo Canyon area. |
