We had a light turnout at the meeting of the 26th. Many members traveling, I presume. We honored our Mexico team who laid 8 concrete floors for tin hut dwellings in Mexico. We were told that some of the women cried with joy and gratitude when they saw the finished project. No more mud when it rains. This was one of Jeff Cotters International projects and it epitomizes the object of Rotary! Our golfers also beat out the Breakfast Club in the first ever contest between the two valley clubs. Congrats to our teams! I hope we will have a great turnout for our Christmas Party at the Alisal on Wednesday night the 17th of December. We will not have a noontime meeting on that day. The Alisal Sycamore room is a spectacular place and the food and fellowship outstanding. We had a wonderful time last year, and those of you who missed it should make sure you come this year. We will have our Rotary Family guests at the lunch meeting on the 10th of December. Each of them will have a personal escort and be introduced to the members who have volunteered to help them with difficult home projects. We have already complied with requests from the Rotary Widows. I do hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We will not meet on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, December 24th and 31st. Since the meetings are cancelled makeup is not a requirement, but as always you are encouraged to enjoy the fellowship at other clubs in the area. Be sure and check their Holiday schedule first. Dr. Otto Austel, is the winner of the 2002-2004 Rotary Foundation alumni Service Award. He is a member of Simi Valley Sunrise Club, and was our District 5240 Governor for the 1999-2000 year. A volunteer on 25 Rotary humanitarian projects, he will receive his award at Rotary International’s 95th Annual Convention in Osaka Japan in May 2004. The new Capital Hill Rotary Club charter was established in Washington, D.C. on 19 November. Senator Richard G. Lugar, chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a 46-year member of Rotary was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. The Rotary Club of Capitol Hill meets each Wednesday at 7:15 a.m. at La Brasserie Restaurant (236 Massachusetts Ave NE). Thanks to the superb leadership and organizational skills of Joe Dugan and Nelson Owens your club was able to crush the breakfast club at the Alisal Golf course on November 19th. Your winning team was composed of Butch Phillips/ Bob Jurgensen, Bob Moir /John Patterson, Jim Vreeland /Ed Andrisek and Nelson Owens/Joe Dugan. The ringers from the breakfast club were Gary Riches/Scott Pickens, Terry Daly/Rob Woodruff, Alan Hitt/Pete Rush/Ken Plam/Jim Groessl . It is hoped this will become an annual event with the men playing on Wednesday, men’s guest day and the women playing on Thursday, women’s guest day. The addition of the women should guarantee victory to SYV Rotary for many years to come.
