We just returned from a fun day at the Hollywood Park Race Track with about 50 members of the Breakfast Club. There were six from our club and I think we held our own. It was a great day - we need to do something like that. We do have a wonderful Christmas party lined up, however, thanks to Michelle. It will be at the Alisal Sycamore Room on December 17th. I think we were lucky she was able to get that date. Some members of the other clubs will be invited as well as some District folks. I'm certain it will be a real gala event ! You will be hearing more about it. Saturday, five from our club (including Bob Hinnrichs) will be traveling to Mexico to construct at least ten cement floors in homes there that now have only dirt. This is one fine effort by Jeff Cotter as part of his International Programs. He will be assisted by Kris Kersten, Lou Karpf, Deepa Willingham and Bob Hinnrichs. We will want to see lots of pictures - of the work ! Our Club has received the applications for two new members. They are: Executive Director SYV Historical Society Classification: Organization Mgr. Head of Midland School Classification: Education Sponsor: Randy Jones Any concerns about these two candidates should be forwarded onto John Rasmussen, JBRconstruction@hotmail.com. We are trying to expedite their initiation into our Club. District 5240 has amended the Rotary Code of Policies as follows: Retired persons being inducted into active membership in a Rotary Club will use their former classification but this will not be counted toward the club’s limit of members in a single classification. The classification roster in a club shall not include retired Rotarians. The Centennial Committee members are the current presidents and president- elects of our valley clubs. The chair is SYV Rotary past president Len Dalberg. The following actions have been taken: 1. The committee recommends that we engage Leathers & Associates of Ithaca N.Y. to lead us in our project, the building of a children’s playground in the new park planned for the triangle parcel on Alamo Pintado. Leathers & Associates have worked with communities to build more than 1600 unique projects. An example is Kids World at Alice Keck Park in Santa Barbara. 2. The committee named Nelson Owens as the treasurer for the Centennial Project. Each club will contribute $10.00 per-member as seed money. A program on the centennial project will be placed on our schedule for early 2004. The 7th Annual International Projects Fair and Conference on Poverty in the Americas will be held November 21-23, 2003. The conference will be at the Hyatt Regency in Mission Bay, San Diego. The keynote speaker is Rotary Foundation trustee Irving “Sonny” Brown. The cost is $135 for Conference Registration. For further information call Past District Governor Brenda Cressey at 805 238-4264. The Board approved this year's Nominating Committee slate of Michele Hinnrichs, Len Dalberg, Roger Nielsen, Kris Kersten, & Ed Kushner. Butch and Wendy Phillips have graciously agreed to serve as the second host family for our Y.E.S., Marie Loustalet. Those who haven't paid your dues, please see our Treasurer, Wim Ilmanen, right away. Annual dues of $100.00 payable to SYV Rotary were due on July 1, at the beginning of each Rotary year.
