King Richard Says

Last chance to sign up for the Rotary International District Conference.  It will be a great event in San Luis Obispo on Oct. 24 -26.  Ask Deepa for an application.  Hearst Castle tour, Paso Robles Winery tour & Box Lunch, Edna Valley Tour, Nipomo Flower Growers' Tour as well as the Governor's Gala Dinner and Dance are a few of the attractions.  Let's get behind this important function and enjoy the camaraderie !

Our GSE team from Romania is here now and will be feted by all our valley clubs.  It is a treat to talk with them and to help them achieve their goals in coming here.

It was a shame to have to cancel our proposed bike ride.  Both Jeff Cotter and Paul Matthies have great ideas for other fundraisers, however, and we will get to work on those.

Don't miss next week's speaker on Money Management.  It is reported to be an outstanding message and may keep you from having to support your grown kids !

Rotary Day at the UN

Eight hundred Rotarians from 22 States and 30 countries attended the Rotary/UN Day at the UN headquarters in New York on October 4th.

RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe spoke and in his address said “Together, the UN and Rotary are like members of an extended family, a family that shares core values and a common vision. I think this vision was so eloquently expressed by John F. Kennedy who said, ‘We must seek a world of peace in which people dwell together in mutual respect and work together in mutual regard.’”

Object of Rotary

The Object of rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third
The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

Fourth
The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
