King Richard Says

It is most gratifying to see the results come in from Betty Madsen's "Family of Rotary" Committee efforts.  Just this morning I had a call from a Rotary Widow who said she has never felt she left Rotary when her husband died but from the nice letter she received from the Committee she now knows for sure she has not left.  We will have social events for all these people soon.  If you know of someone (widow or widower) please let us know so we will have everyone on the list.

As most of you know, our bicycle ride had to be postponed a year. This will give us time to insure the planning and conduct of the event are world class.

Last week I gave a review of our local service projects.  Some have asked that I also advise you of our International ones.  Our "Continuing Resolutions" (a supplement to our by-laws) directs us to give at least 25% of our revenue each year to International Projects.  This year we will give over $12,500 total.  This money will go to Rick Zanders Philippines projects, to the Exchange Student project and to the Group Study Exchange effort.

We will all miss Leon Roeser.  Leon was a world class Rotarian, volunteering to help in all our events, holding many offices and just doing whatever he could do to help.  Leon helped me personally as treasurer, Mentor Chair, and so much more.  I will never forget Leon Roeser.

In Memory of Leon

Leon Roeser, a member of our club from Jan. 1, 1990, died on Sept. 29. A celebration of life mass was held at Old Mission Church on Friday Oct. 3. Past President Len Dalberg participated in the service. Many of our members attended.

Leon served as treasurer of our club for 3 years. He attended Potential Rotary leaders Seminars and became a PRLS graduate. Our club honored him with a Paul Harris Fellow award. In recent years he served as Membership Chairmen encouraging us to invite new members to join our club. Whenever we had a Rotary Exchange Group visiting, Leon was there with his van.

Leon owned and operated Roeser’s Drug Store until retirement. He graduated from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. as a pharmacist. This also was his classification in Rotary. He served in the US Army in Germany following college graduation.

The sympathies of the club have been extended to his wife Bonnie, his three daughters, one son and 3 grandchildren.

Leon was a faithful Rotarian and will be missed.
