King Richard Says

As you all know the RI theme this year is "Lend A Hand"  RI  President Majiyagbe suggests four areas in which we can each Lend a Hand.  IN YOUR CLUB, "Focus on retention by making all club members feel that they are an integral part of the group with an important contribution to make.  IN YOUR VOCATION, " Use your  professional knowledge and skills to assist people in need".  IN YOUR COMMUNITY, "Work to help those in dire need"  IN THE WORLD, "Through RI and Rotary Foundation programs, work to alleviate the abject poverty that afflicts so many people and obstructs the path to peace".  We should strive to continue our good work to "Lend a Hand".

I want to thank you for responding to our annual Satisfaction Survey.  The results were substantially favorable in all areas but we will look at improving any that received less than positive ratings.  The "Club Public Relations" had the most "insufficient" marks, but our new chair, Randy Jones, has a handle on it and is already  producing great newspaper articles and other PR actions.

Don't let the Rotary International District Conference in San Louis Obispo pass you by.  Hotel reservations at the Embassy Suites are going fast.  The dates are Oct. 24 - 26.  Get an application from Deepa.

From the Board

Our Club sponsored Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Marie Loustalet, from the town of Pau in France, arrived August 27th. Deepa Willingham, our Secretary, is her sponsor. Marie is a junior at our Santa Ynez Valley High School for this academic year. We can look forward to meeting her in the near future at our Club meeting.

Jeff Cotter, our International Services Chair, is firming up plans for the November 15-22 "Piso" building trip to Mexico. Many of our Rotarians as well as a few non-Rotarians will be accompanying Jeff to build these cement floors for the needy in villages around Oxaca. Those of our members who have participated in this mission before, tell us how gratifying the experience can be. Check with Jeff Cotter to get the details.

If you haven't heard by now, our Rotarian colleague Jeff Little, has jumped in with both feet to organize the first ever major fund raising event for our Club, Tour de Santa Ynez on May 22, 2004. Bravo to Jeff and his committees! This fund raiser will require the involvement of not only many of our fellow Rotarians but also spouses and significant others bringing our Rotary community together in a true Family of Rotary event. Please call Jeff to see how you can help.
