King Richard Says

In spite of the continued summer vacations, our club is going strong. We anointed a new member of the Round Table this week: Michele Hinnrichs is now the KNIGHTESS OF INQUISITION in tribute to her astute questioning of all presentations at our meetings. She keeps the membership awake and the speakers know we are listening.  Congratulations Michele.

Betty Madsen held the second meeting of the FAMILY OF ROTARY Committee this week. Here is the list of contacts in the various areas of responsibility. Please contact them if you know of someone needing their services.

SUNSHINE - Sends cards to  members who are ill ; birth of child or grandchild, etc.
ELLE SEYMOUR   688-8858

INTERNATIONAL - Contributes to the Calcutta education proram.
DEEPA WILLINGHAM  686-0949

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP - To honor all widows and widowers
who have given their time and energy to Rotary in the past.
RUDY VAN ENOO    688-0312

SENIOR ASSISTANCE - To lend a hand to those senior members,
past member, widows or widowers who need minor repairs at home.

FIFTH WEDNESDAY - To provide special events or invitations to
widows, widowers and past members on Fifth Wednesdays.

We need new members !  At least 11 this year!  Angelo Perciballi, membership chair,
and his assistant, Sharon Pike, are developing a strategy for attracting new members.
In the meantime, surely many of you know someone you could ask as a guest at one of
our meetings. Don't be bashful, there are a lot of good people out there who are not yet Rotarians.

Jeff Little will have a briefing on the big Bike Ride project soon.  Be sure you sign up for the job you would like - or risk getting one you don't. We need your help - all of you. We are a Service Above Self club so I know we won't have a problem with help.

About Our Members

Leon Roeser, who has made several trips to Cottage Hospital recently said, “Don’t send me flowers or candy but prayers for me are welcome”. We look forward to Leon’s recovery and his return to Rotary. He has also promised to explain how the 50/50 pot works, right Leon?

Bike Ride in Bolivia

In the August 28-Sept. 4 issue of The Santa Barbara Independent, there is a story about a Bike Ride in Bolivia to raise funds for the late Dr. Lou Netzer’s Rio Beni project. Since our club gave money to fund this project it makes interesting reading. You can find the Independent at our libraries and at several local businesses. It’s free.

Ramblings

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach them how to fish and you get rid of them for the weekend.

Will Rogers: Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks it was called witchcraft, today it’s called golf.
