The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than the past, than education than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think, or say, or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break an organization, a school, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens, to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… ~ Charles Swindoll~ President Elect Dick Brown and Marene leave soon for the Rotary International Convention in Brisbane Australia, June 1st - 4th. We know Dick will return enthused and ready to assume his new position as President of our club on July 1st. Dick Lawton, our versatile song leader is moving to Visalia with his wife Betty. They will be living next door to their son Steve and his wife Jackie. Dick joined our club Jan. 1, 1962 soon after the club was chartered in 1959. He served as President in 1968-69. He has been an active member for over 41 years. When I joined Rotary in 1985 Dick was the assistant song leader. Fred Brown resigned the next year and Dick stepped in admirably. We will miss his enthusiastic arm waving style. Be sure to greet Dick during the next few weeks and thank him. 2611 So. University St. Visalia, CA 93277 ~ Len Dalberg ~ We have had some great things going on: A Rotary 5240 District Picnic, The Nelson Owens Rotary Classic, a great 5th Wednesday BBQ, RYLA, and a great combined meeting with the Solvang and Los Olivos Rotary Clubs presenting the upcoming PCPA performances. Unfortunately, many of you have not participated. It is your loss and is damaging to our club. I challenge all of our members to be better Rotarians by attending Rotary functions and saying yes when asked. Our biggest event is coming up on the 4th of July. Are you involved? If not, why not? Thanks to all of our great Rotarians for their efforts. You know who you are. Remember, "It Can Be Done" and to "Sow Those Seeds of Love". ~ Butch ~ The purchase and installation of a children's playground at the proposed Triangle Park on Alamo Pintado Rd. will be the Centennial project for our Rotary Club. The decision was made at the Board meeting on May 14th. If the Solvang Breakfast Club and the Los Olivos Twilight Club concur the Centennial project will be registered with Rotary International. The ninth annual tournament was held on May 8th. The weather wasn't the greatest but it was a good time had by all. There were sixty-nine golfers and sixteen Rotarians helping that day. We had thirty-four sponsors and we made between $4,700 to $5,000 for the Rotary Scholarship Fund. I would like to thank all of the Golfers and Helpers. ~ Nelson Owens, Golf Chairman ~ Tohnia Fields, editor of the Cogwheel for the past year, has resigned form our club because of her job transfer to Arroyo Grande. She will continue to serve as editor until John Patterson is able to take her place. We thank Tohnia for her year of service as Cogwheel Editor. ~ Len Dalberg ~ are in the seeds we sow today. ~ J J ~ Wednesday, May 21, 2003 @ 12:10 Ed Miller from the FBI.
