ROTARY RETURNS TO AFGHANISTAN

A Rotary Club served Kabul Afghanistan from 1968 to 1979 but disbanded because of war and political instability. A new club has been chartered. Rotary is now in 166 countries.

ROTARY’S PEACE EFFORTS

Rotarians in the Washington DC area are supportive of Friendship Caravan, a group dedicated to peace. The three Rotary clubs in Bahrain support this organization. Bahrain’s ambassador to the U.S. is an honorary Rotarian.

CLUB PICNIC

April 30, 2003
The 5th Wednesday party will be a BBQ picnic held at Hans Christian Andersen Park in Solvang. This will be our 1st Annual Guest Day. Every Rotary member is asked to bring a guest that we think would be interested in Rotary. There will be a very informative presentation as part of this event.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well, I’m 50 years old, and all that my friends can talk about is my upcoming colonoscopy. I assume I spelled that correctly. I have a great e-mail to share next week concerning colonoscopies. We have a variety of activities coming up. Our 5th Wednesday Party is April 30th. Lets show off Rotary in grand style by everyone bringing a guest that could be a prospective Rotarian. The Nelson Owens Annual Rotary Tournament scheduled May 8th. This event has grown into one of our major fundraisers. Lets give this event some great support by either participating or sponsoring a hole. Call Nelson directly on how you may be able to help. There is also a District 5240 Rotary BBQ scheduled for the weekend of May 12th, and we are trying to get additional information on this event. I will report my findings at next weeks meeting. Also, the District Assembly is right around the corner. We have several attending and it’s a great venue to find out more about Rotary. Remember “It Can Be Done” and to “Sow Those Seeds of Love”

POLIO NEWS

83% of all new polio cases are now found in India. Rotary and government agencies have launched a major campaign to immunize 165 million children this year.

NELSON OWENS GOLF CLASSIC

May 8, 2003
The 9th annual Nelson Owens Golf Classic is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. at the Alisal River Course. Joe Dugan or Nelson Owens can be contacted for more information. This golf tournament is our club’s second largest fundraiser.
