April 26th, and May 3rd, 2003 There will be two Assembly times and you can attend one or the other. April 26th Villanova Preparatory School in Oaji. May 3rd Cal State University Bakersfield. The 5th Wednesday party will be a BBQ picnic held at Hans Christian Andersen Park in Solvang. This will be our 1st Annual Guest Day. Every Rotary member is asked to bring a guest that we think would be interested in Rotary. There will be a very informative presentation as part of this event. Special Kudos to all the incredible Rotary Volunteers for driving and to the several who also hosted a student! I hope you had a wonderful time learning that we have some really great teenagers at Santa Ynez High School! Special thanks to these super volunteers: Dick Brown, Mel Dreyfuss, Doc Moore, Alfred Holzheu, Valerie Moya, Ken Mills, Al Hunt, Walt Alves, Sharon Pike, Deepa Willingham, Ron Rutter, Bob Crowe, Kris Kersten, Leon Roeser, Bob Moir, Verva Enoch, Jack Larsen, Richard Shawcroft, John Patterson and non-Rotarians, and the Super City of Solvang staff members Kristen Bundgen, Jim Proctor and Ken James for helping out! We had over 120 job shadow participants and while the situation got hurried in the days proceeding, everyone got to where they needed to go due to all of your help! Thank you so much! This project has made me proud to be a Rotarian and I learned about Two of the Four Way Test Items through this project. * Will it build goodwill and better friendships? YES! I love you all; you came through in a crunch for me! * Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Yes! Hopefully we have helped give these young adults a small taste of an area they might be interested in pursuing and a business contact for them. ~Marlene Demery~ It was old "Geezers" week on April 2, 2003. A great meeting honoring 105 year old Mr. Sorensen. Thanks to Lynn, Suzzane, and Greg for bringing this Paul Harris recipient to us. Mr. Sorensen was obviously pleased. The Paul Harris fellowship is the highest award given by Rotary. I enjoyed reading my e-mail of the week, titled "Old Geezers". I am hopeful that all of us that don't yet qualify will grow maturely and gracefully into Old Geezers. Following our Paul Harris presentation Valley Haven gave an informative presentation concerning the safe care of our more elderly citizens and how this organization also benefits the caregivers. We have numerous Rotary events coming up. Sign up for the Nelson Owen's Annual Golf Tournament, the 5th Wednesday BBQ, the Club Assembly, and the upcoming Rotary picnic. The 4th of July is just around the corner. The 9th annual Nelson Owens Golf Classic is scheduled for Thursday May 8th at 12:30 p.m. at the Alisal River Course. SIGN UP NOW. You don't have to be a professional to play (call Michele Hinnrichs). When Alamo Pintado Rd. was changed about17 years ago to eliminate a sharp turn, a triangle of land was left isolated. A proposal has been made to make the triangle a park. Kristen Bundgen, Director of Recreation for Solvang, will tell us about these plans in her program on April 9th. BRING A FRIEND! Only the one who has learned to serve, is qualified to lead. ~ Unknown ~ Coming Programs Wednesday, April 09, 2003 @ 12:10 Kristen Bundgen will speak on The Proposed Alamo Pintado Triangle Park.
