A GREAT VALENTINE'S PARTY

Jeff Cotter got us off to a great start telling us of the "authentic" history or St. Valentine. It did seem he had his tongue in his cheek though. Suzanne had arranged a great program of songs by Vince & Ellen Pillow with Chris Lund at the piano. Sid Gonzalez, an employee of Solvang Lutheran Home, played a love song on his guitar. Suzanne sang songs honoring several couples in our club: Alex & Dale Rossi 60 years
Len & Anabelle Dalberg 52 years
Roger & Ann Nielsen 38 years
Butch & Wendy Phillips 33 years
Suzanne received a special pin in recognition of her contributions to our club. President Butch was obviously deeply moved as he attempted to attach the pin to her blouse!!!!
The sale of flowers brought in $200 for our scholarship fund.
We thank Roger for arranging for this year's Valentine bouquets.

REPORT FROM CUBA

Kay Kuns, a local attorney with offices in Santa Ynez, will tell us about her recent visit to Cuba. March 05, 2003.
BRING A FRIEND WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN ROTARY
AS THIS SHOULD BE AN OUTSTANDING PROGRAM.

ROTARY CLUBS CENTENNIAL COMMUNITY PROJECT

Our 3 Club Rotary Centennial Committee met with Kristen Bundgen, Solvang's Recreation Director, last week. She informed the committee about plans for the Alamo Pintado Triangle Park and suggested several projects that could be our centennial project.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The New Year has started out with a lot of excitement. A great fifth Wednesday and a wonderful Valentine Celebration were held. A big round of applause to John Rasmussen and Suzanne Hollrah for organizing these events. Deepa Willingham was a gracious host for the expected Governor's Dinner. Fun was had by all, even without Marc Vertin, the District 5240 Governor. On that thought, please keep Marc in your thoughts as he recovers from his mild stroke. I look forward to the democratic responses to the George Jones 2/19/03 e-mails, or at least equal time will be given to democratic issues. Bob ALIGN=left Moir will be leading the meeting Wednesday February 26th. Thanks Bob. This should be my last missed meeting of the year, I promise. Please remember to say "yes" when, asked to volunteer for the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration. It is our biggest, and currently only, fund raising event. Let's make it a good one!

Winner vs. Loser

The Winner - is always part of the answer;
The Loser - is always part of the problem;
The Winner - always has a program;
The loser - always has an excuse;
The Winner - says "Let me do it for you";
The Loser - says, "That's not my job";
The Winner - sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser - sees a problem for every answer;
The Winner - sees a green near every sand trap;
The Loser - sees two or three sand traps near every green;
The Winner - says, "It may be difficult but it's possible";
The Loser - says, "It may be possible but it's too difficult."
Be A Winner!

Just a Thought

If you expect to win, you have to be in the game.
