PROPOSED NEW MEMBER

John Ramsey has been proposed as a new member of the SYV Rotary Club. His classification is Landscape Architect. Sponsors are Butch Phillips and Dick Brown. Any concerns should be addressed to the Club Secretary Deepa Willingham.

POLIO ERADICATION DRIVES

Dr. Frank Pedersen, our only charter member, reminded Rotarians that there was a polio epidemic in our valley in 1952. One child died. He also described the Rotary sponsored polio vaccination drive a few years later. Our club helped vaccinate all of the children of our valley.
Past District Governor, Brenda Cressey reminds us that polio is almost eliminated from our world. The last 1% presents a challenge because of civil conflicts and the isolation of some areas. District 5240 has launched a drive for polio eradication.
We can help reach the goal of total eradication. Your gift of $100.00 to the Santa Ynez Rotary Valley Foundation will be matched by the Gates Foundation five fold. Gifts must be received by May of 2003 to be matched.
Furthermore for every 5 gifts of $100.00 a Paul Harris recognition award can be given to a worthy Rotarian in our club. The reason is that our club has credits for gifts already given. The receipts of the awards will be chosen by past presidents who are members of our Paul Harris Committee.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Again, I have to thank Dick Brown for standing in for me at the November 6th meeting. I called Dick from Phoenix at the last moment, and as a great Rotarian that he is he jumped right in to help. I must apologize for missing the last couple meetings including the great 5th Wednesday. Los Padres Bank's holding company, which I am the President, went public last week and I have been on the road in 13 states in eight working days, giving the same presentation 28 times. If you are interested Harrington West Financial Group, Inc. stock is now traded on Nasdaq under the symbol HWFG. Harrington is a shell holding company that owns Los Padres. Sorry "free advertisement". I'm paid up on my fines. Just thought you might want to know where I've been.
We had a great board meeting, November 12th. Len Dahlberg will be heading up the centennial event and getting the other local clubs involved for the 2005 event. Rotary International will be 100 years old. That's all for now. Butch
