Dr. Lou Netzer

He came to our valley after beaching his Chinese junk on a beach near Vandenburg A.F.B. Leaving his boat on the beach he opened his medical practice in Solvang.

In addition to building up a practice, Lou was instrumental in organizing Midland School, Friendship House and our Alzheimer facility. He dreamed of a coffeehouse where people could gather and discuss issues so he opened the Side St. Café in Los Olivos.

Five years ago Lou sold his practice and opened a clinic on the banks of the Rio Beni in Bolivia South America. Our Rotary Club provided him with a boat and motor so he could serve residents along the river. We presented him with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition award. Every so often he honored us with his presence. Telling of his experiences on the Rio Beni.

Lou died of cancer October 10 at the age of 62. Fortunately the Rio Beni health project will continue under the direction of a doctor from Ventura. We will long remember Lou as a man of great courage and a deep compassion for the poor.

ARE YOU AN ACTIVE MEMBER?

Are you an active member? The kind that would be missed, or are you just contented that your name is not the list? Do you attend the meetings, and mingle with the flock? Or do you just stay away and criticize and knock? Do you take an active part? To help the work along, or are you satisfied to be the kind that "just belongs"? Do you ever go to visit or call a brother or sister who is sick? Or leave the work for just a few, and call them "the clique"?

There's a program scheduled that you've heard about, and it would be appreciated if you too, would help out. So, come to meetings and help the hand and heart, don't just be a member, but take an active part; Think this over, brother and sister, you know right from wrong, be an active member and do not "just belong".

5th Wednesday Party

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

We lost another great man recently, Lou Netzer. I am so impressed with individuals who give total commitment to doing good for others and Lou is certainly one who gave "Service Above Self". Lou was a very committed individual. I'm sure he would appreciate your individual gifts to help continue his medical program.

Richard Shawcroft is the Club's designated member to eradicate Polio and responsible in coordinating and raising the Club's fair share to help meet the District goal. Let's please assist him in his efforts. He also gave us some good advice and remember to cough if you believe you are starting to have a heart attack. Dr. France says to take a couple aspirin as well.

If any of you receive a good e-mail of the week please share them with us.

I hope we all can make the 5th Wednesday this Month. The Alisal is a great venue. The newly remodeled Clubhouse is very nice. See you there.
