From the Pen of Len

"Act With Consistency, Credibility and Continuity" This is the motto of Rotary International as we enter the year 2000 under the leadership of RI. President Carlo Ravizza of Italy.
According to Webster, consistency means uniform, homogenous, congruous or compatible. If we follow the 4 Way Test, we will be consistent. If we follow our constituUon and by laws, we will be consistent. Consistency, however, should never be confused with intransigence, an unwillingness to accept new ideas or changes.

What we do or say as Rotarians ought to be credible, believable or plausible. Our actions someUmes speak so loudly people can't hear what we say.We need to be credible.

Every year on July 1, Rotary has "fruit basket upset" - a complete change of leadership from top to bottom. Yet, there is continuity - we survive and endure. This happens because we are committed to the goals and ideals of Rotary. I'm grateful to Past President John who has kept me well informed this past year. As LBJ used to say so often - "Let Us Continue" : Let us continue together.

Thailand Calls - Our Rotary District 5240 needs a Rotarian to lead a Group Study Exchange Team to Thailand in March or April of next year. If you are interested, call Len at 688 - 4687.

I happened to notice in the Rotary District 5240 Directory - on page 27- a smiling picture of Rick Zander. Rick is the District Director of International Service. Congratulauon to Rick who keeps making our Club look good on the International scenel

If you don't know who the committee chairfolks are under the
Dalberg Administration, you may want to check the front of the
Cogwheel where they are listed. Some of the names are the same, but we have added a few new ones. Thank you to all of them. If you see an avenue of service that interests you, now you know who(m) to call.

More Fourth of July Stuff
Michele is going to have a meeting on Wednesday the 14th at 5:30 in her office in Santa Ynez. Please try to make it if you possibly can. While it is still fresh in our minds - and for some, time is fleeting - we should get together and decide how to improve upon perfection. John TraIler, who is in charge next year, will be there and he will be looking for any suggestions that will make his life easier next July.

John will have to go some to better Michele's performance. It appears that we will realize a nice profit this year. Michele has given me a very rough estimate, but it is probably better to wait for hard facts rather than give inaccurate info.

Now that the Fourth is over, we will begin to direct our attention to the YMCA Auction to be held in October. Greg Pensa reminds us that he has space for auction items. Call greg and let him know what treasures you have to donate

Sergeant-at-Arms, Dick Brown, appears to have the most difficult job in the new administration. The Club was quite raucous for President Len's first meeting. Packing us all into that small space was like putting everyone at the "Back Table". It seems that there was quite a bit of energy left over from the Fourth. That plus the Club Assembly seemed to produce a spirited group of Rotarians. President Len seemed to enjoy the banter, but our new Sergeant-at-Arms looked mighty worried. Don't worry, Dick. The "Back Table" will be a model of decorum. You will be most occupied with keeping that "Senior Table" in line.

Remember, if you have something to say or something to contribute to the Cogwheel, please, let me know. Thanks.
